In May 2006,
the Foundation made a major announcement about an exciting new
pilot project. The project combined the Foundation’s endowment
and the mini-grant programs, taking both to a much higher level
of success in rewarding and recognizing innovative and
exceptional teachers. Janice Hudson, the 2000 MCSD Teacher of
the Year, is spear heading this project. Hudson is working with
other MCSD math and science teachers, training them to teach
physics using the Modeling Method.
This project
provides physics teachers with education in content and
instructional strategies, as well as bridges the gap between
educational research in physics and the application of research
findings for the improvement of classroom instruction. It also
promotes systemic reform by providing a corps of
expert teachers in
the best use of classroom technology for science and math
courses. Most importantly,
the Modeling Method has a proven track record of increasing
student’s knowledge, comprehension and test scores!
